What to expect from the Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort when it opens

In Dubai’s fiercely competitive luxury hospitality market, doing something new is harder than you might think. The city is already home to the world’s tallest hotel, the world’s only ‘seven-star’ hotel, and countless other luxury properties that tick every conceivable box, from family retreats to romantic desert retreats to dining. Beach.

And this is where the very soon to be opening Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort has it relatively easy.

As the first hotel to open on Dubai’s long-awaited islands of the world, the hotel is already doing something different. Fortunately, in typical Anantara fashion, that’s not quite enough for the luxury retreat located on the South American continent of the world’s island development.

Instead, Anantara has created something unlike anything that already exists in the Emirates.

The initial opening date is Saturday December 18. Before the grand opening, The National was invited for a behind-the-scenes look at the Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort.

As it is located approximately four kilometers off the coast of Dubai, at the World’s Islands site closest to the mainland, guests staying at the resort will arrive and check-in at Anantara Dubai The Palm.

From there, a very stylish luxury speedboat will take guests across the Arabian Gulf on a 15-minute journey to the private paradise island.

By the way, this is the same way that workers had to route most of the furniture, fixtures and finishes for the Anantara World Islands through the complex.

Once you arrive at the resort, a wooden jetty will lead you to the property’s reception pavilion. This pergola-style structure sits right by the ocean and is where travelers will receive a refreshment and enjoy a musical welcome ceremony, which is customary at many Anantara resorts around the world. . At this property, the welcome takes place under an awe-inspiring chandelier made from hundreds of harvested oyster shells – a nod to the history of pearl diving in the United Arab Emirates.

Tropical island escapes off United Arab Emirates

As you enter the sand-covered resort town, it’s not too hard to think that you’ve actually left Dubai behind. It’s hard to say where we think we’ve been – the resort mixes Thai influences from Anantara with a sense of Maldivian luxury, Arabic elements and even Zanzibar vibes. The result is decidedly tropical.

Check-in guests can stroll at ease along the sandy pathways that wind through the resort, listen to birdsong and admire the tropical-style gardens that are still in their infancy, but already blooming with color. . Thai-style tuk-tuks are also available to transport guests from one location to another.

An undulating swimming pool dotted with and surrounded by palm trees welcomes guests near the entrance. There’s a poolside bar on the shore to the left of the pool and an Instagram-worthy rock art spot with the endless blue of the ocean behind it.

Tapas, Mediterranean, Indian and Middle Eastern dishes, as well as a plastic-free policy

Next to the pool is Helios, the all-day Mediterranean restaurant at Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort. The spacious restaurant has fully retractable glass doors that can open to let in the breeze on a sunny day, or be closed to keep things cool in the summer.

This is one of the three main restaurants on site. There is also Luna, a South American living room inspired by Frida Kahlo which is located above Helios. Serving tapas and a wide range of drinks, the elevated position of this colorful restaurant guarantees stunning views of the ocean and Dubai skyline.

Qamar is the resort’s Middle Eastern and Indian restaurant, elegant and romantic without being ostentatious. Al fresco dining or shisha on the patio is bound to be popular here thanks to the traditional majlis-style seating and uninterrupted views of the world’s islands.

At the heart of the resort is the Grande Maison. This lobby has beautiful décor inspired by palm trees and bamboo-style furniture. It is also another place where customers can have a refreshment or a light snack.

In all restaurants and throughout the resort, there is a strict no-plastic policy, with compostable coffee pods in mini-bars and water derived from the Anantara filtration system, and served to customers in bottles. refillable glass.

Cabana spa, yoga and gym rooms with unforgettable views

The island has 70 guest rooms, suites, and villas, ranging from elevated ocean-view rooms, all with balconies, to the four-bedroom Beach Pool Villa that spans 224 square meters.

One of the great things about design is that you don’t really feel like you’re in a resort. Each of the villas, suites, and rooms are all slightly different from each other, giving the impression that you are more of walking through a tropical village, even if it is home to some serious mansions.

Huge thatched roofs adorned with Thai chofas hint at Anantara’s Thai heritage, and the high ceilings inside the villas create a real sense of space. The design is coastal, with a subtle color palette and materials like wood, wicker, linen and other natural products.

Fitness fans will love the gym which has to be a contender for the best workout views in the world. There is also a yoga room and a padel court. The resort’s beach is lined with lounge chairs, and there are wooden swings in the ocean just off the shore.

Famous for its spa facilities, Anantara’s newest member is no different. Although it was not open for a preview during our visit, we are told that the treatments will be provided in luxurious spa cabins and that the exclusive therapies are the Island Lomi Lomi massage and a Escape from the island of couples.

The area will also house a large greenhouse that will eventually support the hotel’s food and drink offerings with produce grown and used on site.

Reservations will open soon and with initial rates starting at Dh 1,600, checking in on Dubai’s newest tropical island might not cost as much as you might expect.
