Joun Yang (Epic Smokehouse, American Prime) and chef Jon Mathieson opened Unusual luncha restaurant at 1028 N Garfield St. in Clarendon where Hot pot by the river and Bol’d formerly serving only breakfast, lunch and brunch. The space can accommodate 50 people inside and 50 on the outdoor terrace. They have a traditional menu with egg sandwiches, waffles and fried chicken, but they also serve five different types of poutine with fries, cheese and gravy – a Canadian favorite. The Epic Smokehouse influence can be savored in their smoked steak fries and rib sandwich. Their liquor license completes the brunch menu.

Driveshack’s putter, a new indoor golf venue, with food and drink (re: cocktails) that complement its mini-golf themed courses, recently opened in the Penn neighborhood, where the Spy Museum once stood. Executive Chef James Oakley has created a menu designed for small to medium sized championship dishes to share.

Group of seven restaurants will open a modern Latin American concept, JOYat The collection at Chevy Hunt at 5471 Wisconsin Ave. in the fourth quarter of 2022. It will accommodate 150 people with an additional outdoor patio under a retractable roof. They also plan to open a new concept, Surrealist, in the fourth quarter of 2023, in Arlington. Based in Dallas Sixty Vinesa wine-focused restaurant, will open where Clyde of Reston was in Reston Town Center. He will join Pisco and Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar, Fogo de Chao, open road Distillery and The St James. The concept features communal seating with 60 wines on tap and a menu with selected items to accompany them. It is operated by Facebook CompanyPreviously Front Burner Restaurants.

Jose Andres’ patience and determination paid off. He will finally open a restaurant at the Old Post Office Pavilion, which is now a Waldorf Astoria, operated by CGI Merchant Group. What will open there: Bazaaran international concept originally launched in SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Quick hits: Mola Empanada, a Panamanian restaurant, opens where Domburi was at 2438 18th St NW, Adams Morgan, in late summer, according to owner J’Nai White…. Michael Rafidi plans to open a second site of yellow coffee, in Georgetown in Q4 2022, serving Levantine pastries (savory and sweet) and light fare, as well as coffee drinks. It will be larger than the Navy Yard, with a capacity of 60 guests….Trippy tacos food truck goes brick and mortar (also) in Silver Spring at 12134 Georgia Ave. It offers a breakfast menu in addition to its regular menu.

More Italian – yes. Carolyn and Massimo Papetti ( I’m Eddie Cano, the Italian bar) opened At the Bocca al-Lupo in Glover Park at 2400 Wisconsin Ave. whereArcuro formerly featuring bassa pizza a la romaine, that is, with a thin, crispy crust, served in white and red flavors. Executive Chef Jacob Brown and Pizzaioli Maestro Fulvio de Rosa run the BOH pizza operation. The name translates to: mouth of the wolf – which means good luck.

Hakan Ilhan ( Liberty Brewery, Al Dente, Ottoman Tavern) opened The Piattoan Italian restaurant, where its French theme mirabelle plum was, at 16th and I Streets, NW (900 Black Lives Matter Plaza NW). Chef Lina Nicolai, formerly ofAl Crostinois the leader.

Best Host Group ( Takoda, The Boardwalk, Boardwalk Bar & Arcade, Cortez, Easy Company) opened a second (larger) location ofTakoda restaurant and beer garden — with a roof — across from Nationals Park at 1299 First Street SE. It has a capacity of 385 customers over two levels, with a 24-line draft system that serves 16 beers and eight cocktails.

Peter Chang ( Peter Chang, Q by Peter Chang, Mama Chang, NiHao) should open Chang Changits 13th restaurant, at Dupont Circle, in Q4 2022 at 1200 19th Street, NW whereMai Thai used to be. With 200 seats in the restaurant, bar and garden patio, they will also offer a distinctive take-out operation, called Chang-Out, with its own menu. Chinese-American chef Simon Lam, formerly of NiHao, is in charge of the kitchen.
