Thai Binh (NAV) – The northern province of Thai Binh leads the country in the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday from Jan. 29 to Feb. 6.

A total of 125,319 doses, including first, second, booster and additional injections, were administered to people aged 12 and over in Thai Binh during the nine-day holiday, said the director of the Thai Binh Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) Nguyen Van Thom.

The provincial health ministry had been working day and night to prepare the necessary facilities and personnel for the rollout of the Tet vaccine ahead of the start of the biggest festival of the year. More than 300 vaccination sites have been set up in the eight districts of the province.

So far, Thai Binh has administered more than 2.7 million COVID-19 vaccines to people aged 18 and above and more than 295,000 to people aged 12 to 17.

Some 99.16% of its population aged 18 and over, or 1.2 million people, are now double vaccinated, while the percentage of those aged 12 to 17 is 97.24%. About 224,000 people received extra doses and some 240,000 others received boosters.

The province is making every effort to slow the COVID-19[female[femininespread as it reported a spike in the number of cases in the past few days following Tet. It detected a record 450 cases, including 221 community infections, on February 9.

Cases are expected to increase further in the coming times as a large number of people have returned to Thai Binh for family reunion during Tet and testing is ramped up.

The chairman of the provincial People’s Committee ordered all local units to take the fight against COVID-19 seriously, not to lower their guard against the virus or respond to it with an extreme approach.

According to the Ministry of Health, during the Tet Festivalthe first stage of the spring vaccination campaign, 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been given, which was quite low compared to previous average daily vaccinations of around 1 million doses.

By the end of the sixth day of the Lunar New Year (February 6), 182.5 million doses of vaccines had been administered in Vietnam, a country of 98 million people, with two-dose coverage in the population aged 12 years and older reaching 95.5 percent.

Twenty-five percent of adults received additional/booster vaccines.

The government aims to conclude the second dose vaccination for people aged 12 to 17 in February, and the provision of third injections for all adults (except those contraindicated), as well as to carry out administration of vaccines for children aged 5 years. -11 years./.
