Phuket hosts APEC ISOM – first face-to-face trade bloc meeting since pandemic


Thani joined the informal Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC ISOM) Senior Officials Meeting, where Thai officials presented the visions and plans of Thailand’s APEC Presidency in 2022.

The informal Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation senior officials meeting kicked off in Phuket, marking the trade bloc’s first face-to-face meeting since the pandemic. An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented Thailand’s plan for the APEC 2022 presidency at this meeting under the theme of Open, Connect, Balance.

Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Thani Thongphakdi attended the Informal Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC ISOM) Senior Officials Meeting, where Thai officials presented the presidency’s visions and plans Thailand’s APEC in 2022.

Thai officials introduced the theme of the Thailand Open, Connect, Balance for APEC 2022, with the country’s agenda to overcome the middle-income trap and post-pandemic economic recovery.


Throughout its year of presidency, Thailand will encourage more open trade and investment opportunities, better connectivity in all aspects, including travel and digital connectivity, and the overall balance between trade responsibilities and durability.

Thailand will also pursue trade and investment facilitation through the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (APTA), the resumption of tourism and the promotion of inclusive and sustainable growth, with particular emphasis on the Thailand’s bio-circular-green (BCG) business model. .

After the host country presentation, senior APEC officials will work together to create work plans for 2022. The APEC summit is expected to take place in late 2022. (NNT)
