Pattaya hotels attract Thai tourists until foreigners arrive

Thai tourists are the mainstay of tourism in Pattaya until foreigners start arriving in December.

With foreign travelers not due to return in large numbers before December, Pattaya hoteliers are doing their utmost to attract Thai tourists.

Phisut Sae-khu, chairman of the eastern section of the Thai Hotels Association, said less than 40% of hotels in Pattaya have reopened, but those that have are rolling out promotions to attract domestic travelers.

Phisut Sae-khu, president of the Thai Hotels Association Eastern Chapter, said many hotels are waiting to see if the arrival of tourists in Pattaya will justify reopening their establishments.

The majority are waiting to see if visits to Pattaya resume enough to justify reopening. Otherwise, they will likely wait until 2022.

He said the year-end events starting with the Pattaya Music Festival and the Fireworks Festival in November will boost domestic tourism.

Pattaya City Councilor Sinchai Wattanasartsathorn said the government subsidy for domestic tourism has helped the struggling hotel industry immensely.

Pattaya City Councilor Sinchai Wattanasartsathorn, who is also CEO of Flipper Hotel Group, said its four hotels were 80% occupied over the recent holiday weekend.

Most of the guests were Thais who took advantage of the government subsidized travel campaign.

Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of the Thai Hotels Association, estimates that foreign tourists will not arrive in large numbers until December.

As Thailand’s reopening to foreign tourism grabbed the headlines, Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of the Thai Hotels Association, said it was unlikely that a significant number of foreign travelers would arrive in Thailand before December.

Until then, she said, Thai tourists will be the industry’s most important asset.

Pattaya businesses big and small are eagerly awaiting the day when foreign tourists come back to liven up our beaches and cities once again.
