National Junior Archery Championship starts today
PANJIM: Rising Stars of Indian Archery – Priya Gurjar, Bishal Changmai, Parneet Kaur and Kushal Dalal are among a host of talented young archers from across the country who will compete in the 42nd National Junior Archery Championship NTPC 2022 to be held from November 3 to 12 at SAG Ground, Campal. Amateur Archery Association Goa (AAAG) organizes the national championship under the auspices of the Indian Archery Association (AAI) and with the support of the Sports Authority of Goa.
At a press conference at a city hotel today, AAAG Secretary Chetan Kavlekar announced details of the national championship, which begins with the classic event on Friday morning. After two days of classic action, the compound event will be played on November 7th and 8th. The Indian round will take center stage on November 10 and 11. A total of 800 archers from 32 teams across India will be seen in action at the prestigious championship.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony while Director of Sport Dr Ajay Gaude will be guest of honor on the opening day to kick off the classic round on November 4. Union Minister and AAI Chairman Arjun Munda and Union Minister and GOA Chairman Shripad Naik will grace the inauguration of the Compound Round on November 7th. The Indian round will be played from November 10 with Sports Minister Govind Gaude as the main guest to declare the event open, while Margao MLA Digambar Kamat will be the guest of honour.
Organizing Secretary Kavlekar said he was confident the host team would do their best. “The team had a training camp at the Ponda Sports Complex. State archers are training at the venue (Campal) starting Tuesday. We expect a good show in recurve and Indian rounds” , said Kavlekar, while choosing Mallika Varde for a special. mention as one to watch to tag him as the next Snehal Divakar.
