Triumph’s latest Street Scrambler simplifies design and meets emissions regulations

Triumph unveiled its 2021 Street Scrambler edition a few months ago. The simple concept is rugged off-road attitude. The Street Scrambler has a rich and illustrious history dating back to the early 1960s, having been stripped down and modified by dirt racers. Compared to the previous year’s Street Scrambler, the 2021 model features several improvements.

In a stripped down, lighter and more powerful form factor, the Scrambler inspired a whole new sub-genre of motorcycles.

The high-torque 900cc Bonneville twin-cylinder engine powers the 2021 Street Scrambler and has been modified to meet current Euro 5 requirements. There is no power reduction, but there is a reduction in pollutants which exceeds Euro 5 standards, and the engine claims to be very fuel efficient. With 80Nm at 3,250rpm, Triumph claims to generate torque across the rev range for exceptional responsiveness and acceleration.

There’s no doubting the British twin’s distinctive high-level dual exhaust system, which has brushed stainless steel mufflers and produces a distinct noise.

The Street Scrambler’s signature wide-spaced forks, premium dual exhaust, minimal bodywork, wide handlebars and wire-spoke wheels with black hubs and rims serve to maintain the bike’s original character. The new numbered aluminum panel with the embossed Street Scrambler emblem has been included in the redesigned side panel for the new generation 2021.

The Street Scrambler’s black-coated engine features the distinctive Bonneville cowls with Triumph badging, along with a finned head and head clamps. The iconic Jet Black, the more modern Urban Gray and the new two-tone Matt Khaki and Matt Ironstone scheme with unique new tank graphics are all options for the 2021 Street Scrambler.

The high-quality Brembo four-piston front brake caliper, according to Triumph, offers superb stopping power. Long hauls or light off-road jaunts can be done in comfort thanks to the 120mm of front and rear wheel travel provided by the high-spec 41mm cartridge forks and preload-adjustable twin shocks.

Rubber gaiters cover the forks, while black seatstays and gray rear suspension springs complete the look. Dual-duty Metzeler Tourance tires on the Street Scrambler’s blacked-out 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels provide excellent traction, durability and precise handling in all weather conditions. Triumph says the low 790mm seat height and compact standover width both contribute to the bike’s confident handling.

Standard fitment of switchable ABS and traction control offers rain, road and off-road riding modes with ride-by-wire technology, allowing adjustment of throttle map and traction control settings depending on road and weather conditions.

Standard equipment includes a torque assist clutch for light and easy operation. In addition to a digital menu system, the clocks contain an analog speedometer and handlebar-mounted controls for accessing menus. Along with the USB charger and key fob immobilizer, an LED rear light completes the technology package.


Obviously, engine design is one of the most important considerations when buying a motorcycle. The personality and character of the engine might be the most essential. The Scrambler’s engine and exhaust produce a distinctive sound, and its powerful torque makes it exciting to drive on light off-road trails.

The 2021 Street Scrambler has the answers you need. After adjusting to the factory-installed riding posture, this is a user-friendly motorcycle. With a simplistic design that incorporates both analog and digital elements, everything looks easy.

I was lucky enough to be in Chiang Mai, which is a great place for horseback riding. A day trip allows city dwellers to escape rush-hour traffic jams and enjoy the views from the highest peaks without having to spend the night away from home.

The Street Scrambler offers a compact design with a decent setup. The three riding modes are sufficient, allowing the rider to always easily activate and deactivate ABS and traction control.

The high-torque motor design has been recently upgraded with slightly more power than the previous edition, creating an impressive ride through tight corners and steep climbs with easy power, meaning you don’t do rev the engine too much.

Considering I’m only 1.6m tall, it’s probably fair to say that this bike suits my lifestyle well. While driving, the Scrambler sound provides a feeling of stability. The sound is not so loud but well designed, but it blends in well with the breeze and the environment around it.

The smooth control of a user-friendly parallel-twin engine with an improved chassis combined with a newly designed clutch making it more comfortable for your left hand, plus new suspension and great stopping power thanks to the Brembo front caliper with four pistons and an excellent center of gravity.

Traveling 170 km from Chiang Mai to Doi Chang at over 1,800 m above sea level, the performance of the Street Scrambler was exceptional with a full tank (12 liters). With more than enough torque to overtake other vehicles, reaching 170 km/h is quite easy, but not recommended due to a lack of aerodynamic design.

Despite its nimbleness the Street Scrambler isn’t the fastest bike on the market and it doesn’t go very far on a full tank, but I’m not complaining about that because looking at the overall design it’s not not really a touring bike. The driving modes are accessible in a few seconds when stationary. Only in off-road mode can the rider change without stopping the bike.

All of these features are great, and the 2021 Street Scrambler makes me want to commute to work every day and get away from town every weekend.
