Korean Air has been recognized by Airbus as the best A220 operator.
The airline received the “Airbus A220 Best Operational Excellence 2021” award on October 4 at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Boston, USA.
Every two years, Airbus rewards the best operators of its aircraft based on an in-depth assessment of factors such as flight time, number of flights operated and punctuality. This year is the first time that Airbus has selected the best operator of the A220.
From August 2020 to July 2021, Korean Air recorded on-time performance of 99.63% for its A220 fleet, compared to an average on-time performance of 99% for global A220 operators.
Punctuality is an international index that measures the operational proficiency in flight of an airline. A higher rate implies the quality of the maintenance and safety system, and is assessed by measuring the number of flights that depart within 15 minutes of scheduled departure.
A punctuality of 99.63% indicates that there were only 3.7 delays or cancellations due to maintenance failures per 1,000 flights.
A high punctuality rate also means that an airline is committed to applying preventive maintenance and safety management measures, providing high levels of safety and service to passengers.
A total of 174 A220s are operated by 11 airlines worldwide, and Korean Air has operated a total of 10 A220s since 2017.
