PHUKET: The Mayor of Phuket Town, Saroj Angkanapilas, has launched a campaign to boost cultural tourism to attract more domestic tourists to the Phuket Town area to help local businesses and the economy of the island to recover.

“The Municipality of Phuket must stimulate the domestic tourism market, especially in the area of ​​Phuket Town with its various cultural attractions, traditions and unique lifestyles, in order to revitalize the tourism sector and the economy of Phuket,” Mayor Saroj told reporters during the Phuket Creativity. & Innovation Center (CIC) yesterday (December 21).

The safety of tourists was also a major concern, added Mayor Saroj.

“A total of 255 CCTV cameras covering all areas of Phuket City Municipality will be installed, with measures to prevent and mitigate disasters around the clock, to increase the effectiveness of crime prevention and suppression,” and to increase the safety of people and tourists traveling in the area of ​​the Municipality of Phuket Town, ”he said.

Mayor Saroj also announced yesterday the winners of the Phuket Municipality’s “2022 Photo Contest”, created to “promote tourism, stimulate the economy and open up new prospects.”

“People will be able to witness a variety of natural attractions, cultural attractions and ways of life in various places through these photos, such as landscape and architecture, which will reflect the individuality of Phuket while promoting and by encouraging creativity, ”said Mayor Saroj.

At the event, Mayor Saroj presented the winners of the competition, which featured 12 photographs presented under the theme “Looking at the city from a new perspective, more chic than the old one”.

The 12 awarded photographs will be used to create a souvenir calendar for 2022 and will be featured in various media on certain occasions to promote tourism in Phuket Town, Mayor Saroj said.

Mayor Saroj also invited people to participate in the creation of merit by giving alms to monks on New Years Day 2022 at the Phuket Provincial Government Center on Saturday January 1, 2022 for the start of a good New Year. augury.
