Cathay Pacific reports December 2021 traffic

Cathay Pacific carried 92,219 passengers in December 2021, an increase of 130.6% compared to December 2020, but a decrease of 96.9% compared to the pre-pandemic level in December 2019.

Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in December increased 156.5% year-on-year, down 95.1% from December 2019.

Load factor increased by 18.2 percentage points to 36.6%, while capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), increased by 28.6%, down from 88.6 % from December 2019 levels.

Over the whole of 2021, the number of passengers transported fell by 84.5% against a drop in capacity of 61.8% and a drop of 79.5% in RPK, compared to 2020.

The airline carried 134,691 tons of cargo last month, an increase of 12% compared to December 2020, but a decrease of 24.1% compared to the same period in 2019.

Revenue tonne kilometers (RFTKs) for the month were up 11.7% year-on-year, down 14.7% from December 2019.

Cargo load factor increased 4 percentage points to 84.3%, while capacity, measured in available freight tonne-kilometres (AFTK), increased 6.5% year-on-year other, a decrease of 32.9% compared to December 2019.

Over the whole of 2021, tonnage increased by 0.1% against a drop in capacity of 10.9% and a drop of 1.1% in RFTKs, compared to 2020.
