Cambodia vaccinated 84.10% of its entire population against COVID-19

Despite Pchum Ben’s vacation, COVID-19 vaccination campaigns have continued unabated, with total vaccinations in Cambodia for the entire population reaching 84.10%, a marginal increase from 84.09 % recorded on Monday.

The adult population aged 18 years and over vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine amounts to 9,913,548 with 72,130 declared ineligible for inoculation. This is 99.14% and Cambodia needs to give a final push to break through the fully vaccinated category for this age group.

Of these, 9,501,811 were fully immunized with both doses of the vaccine, of which 4,776,917 were women.

Another 333,931 of the 907,671 adults who received their third dose or booster dose of the vaccine were also women, comprising frontline medical and health workers in Thailand’s seven border provinces.

It has also been learned that two-thirds of the 2,418 dead from COVID-19 are believed to have not been vaccinated. This was first revealed by Siem Reap’s deputy governor who said many of those who died from COVID-19 in the province were not vaccinated.

The same was taken up by the provincial authorities in Oddar Meanchey Thbong Khmum, Banteay Meanchey, Phnom Penh and Battambang and would be applicable throughout the country.

The Atlanta, U.S.-based Center for Diseases Control (CDC) said unvaccinated people in the country were 11 times more likely to succumb to the virus, giving credence to the effectiveness of vaccines and to the need to be fully immunized as soon as possible.

A World Health Organization official said on Tuesday that unvaccinated people will “die unnecessarily” from Covid-19, citing global vaccine inequalities as one of the main obstacles to immunizing a greater number of people against the virus.
