If you’re yearning for another round of stimulus checks from the federal government, your wish is unlikely to come true. But several states are stepping in to fill this gap.
While the federal government sent money in 2020 and 2021 to help people cope with the impact of COVID-19, several states are now issuing checks for a variety of reasons, ranging from the pandemic to simply helping citizens. to keep pace with runaway inflation.
Below is a list of states cutting checks up to $1,500. Note that our list is not exhaustive, so if you live in a state that is not on this list, you could still receive money from the government someday soon.
1. Virginia

If you had tax to pay last year, you will be entitled to a virginia tax cut This year.
Those who filed individually can get rebates of up to $250 while those who filed jointly are eligible for rebates of up to $500. The state begins issuing refunds in the fall. If you haven’t filed your 2021 tax return yet, you have until November 1 to file and receive a refund.
2. Florida

About 59,000 families in florida will soon receive a one-time payment of $450 per child.
The money is sent mainly to low-income families and a handful of others, such as foster parents, related and unrelated caregivers and participants in the guardianship assistance program.
3. Oregon

Checks for $600 per tax return were sent to Oregon taxpayers earlier this summer.
Households were eligible for the payment if they received the Oregon Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on their 2020 tax return and lived in the state during the last six months of 2020.
4.Massachusetts

In March, nearly 240,000 people in Massachusetts received payments of $500 of State. A second series of 300,000 checks was issued in June. The checks were sent to people who worked in 2020 or 2021 and met certain income requirements.
In July, the State Senate approved $250 one-time tax rebates. The measure will need to be reconciled with an earlier bill passed in the Massachusetts House before it can be sent to Governor Charlie Baker for his signature.
5. New Mexico

Last month, $250 tax refunds were granted in New Mexico single filers who met income limits. Rebates of $500 have been granted to married couples filing jointly.
The July rebates followed a series of payments in June. Another round is planned for August.
6. Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, older homeowners, renters, and people with disabilities received tax rebates from last month.
The highest standard payment was $650, but some owners were eligible for an additional rebate that brought the total to $975.
7.Illinois

Illinois recently introduced a series of tax exemptions on everything from groceries and gas to school supplies. Starting in September, the state will also send $50 tax refund to individuals and $100 rebates to jointly filing couples who meet the income requirements.
Additionally, filers receive $100 per dependent for up to three dependents they claimed on their 2021 taxes.
A property tax refund of up to $300 is also sent to property owners who meet the income requirements.
8. California

From October, California will send tax refunds to 23 million citizens to help them fight inflation.
Refunds will be issued up to $1,050.
9. Hawaii

Hawaii sends tax refunds of $100 or $300 to state taxpayers based on their income.
Those making less money are getting the biggest payouts, which are expected to start this month.
10. South Carolina

In June, South Carolina lawmakers agreed to release tax refunds of approximately $1 billion.
These will be dollar-for-dollar rebates for those who have filed a state tax return for 2021. The state Department of Revenue says it is “working hard to finalize the details and logistics of this discount”.
11. New York

New York sends a homeowner’s tax credit to approximately 2.5 million eligible owners.
You must meet income and other requirements to qualify for the credit, which starts at $100.
12.Maine

In June, Maine has started sending “relief checks” of $850 to its citizens.
In total, about 858,000 qualified people in the state received the payments to help them fight inflation.
13. Colorado

Colorado taxpayers are get tax refunds this summer — $750 for individuals and $1,500 for joint filers.
State officials say Colorado’s strong economic performance has allowed them to double the amount of rebates from what was originally offered. Checks must be sent no later than September 30.
14. Georgia

In Georgia, the size of refund checks depends on your tax liability. Single filers will receive a refund of up to $250, while married people filing jointly can get up to $500.
Most refunds are due this month.
15.Delaware

This spring, Delaware residents received a one-time payment of $300 per adult. Additional payments were made throughout the summer.
16.Idaho

In Idaho, taxpayers received refunds in one of two amounts, whichever is greater:
- $75 per taxpayer and per dependent
- 12% of the tax amount reported on Form 40, Line 20 or Line 42 for eligible military members using Form 43
The amount was based on the “latest, approved 2020 tax return information on file” at the time the rebate was issued.
17. Connecticut

Connecticut recently offered a state tax refund up to $250 per child — up to a maximum of three children — for families who applied for the refund before July 31.
Funds will begin disbursing to families this month.
